Something Unknown

November 20, 2012

A Fascinating spiritual journey into the science behind psychic phenomena. Is it possible to look into the future? Does mind over matter really exist? What is true about psychic healing? Is remote viewing real? Where is the boundary between real magical powers and fraud? Can “miracles of the mind” be explained? This is a powerful story of Parapsychology and how it is embedded in our natural ways of life. Award-winning documentary filmmaker Renée Scheltema, travels on a journey to prove the impossible, while bridging the gap between science and spirituality. With her book "Something Unknown Is Doing We Don't Know What", Renée travelled to the US, visiting many creative scientists performing richly mindblowing research to find out what we know, and don't know. Among the scientists interviewed are: Dr. Dean Radin,, Prof. Charles Tart, Dr. Larry Dossey, Prof. Gary Schwartz and Dr. Rupert Sheldrake. This is a novelistic study created from the award-winning documentary "Something Unknown Is Doing We Don't Know What", including many scientists and lots of new information not cut into the film. Find out what scientists have to say about “The Big Five”: • Precognition • Telepathy • Clairvoyance • Psychokinesis • Healing Expand your horizons, broaden your worldview, open your mind and enjoy a new view of perception. www.SomethingUnknown.com

Gary Schwatz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gary E. Schwartz, PhD, is a professor of psychology, medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and surgery at the University of Arizona and the Director of its Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health.[1][2] Dr. Schwartz is also an author[3] and the Corporate Director of Development of Energy Healing for the Canyon Ranch Resorts.[4] Schwartz is known for his controversial experiments withmediums and energy healing.[5]

[edit]Biography

Schwartz received his PhD from Harvard University and was a professor of psychiatry and psychology at Yale University as well as Director of the Yale Psychophysiology Center and co-director of the Yale Behavioral Medicine Clinic from 1976-1988. He is the Director of the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health (LACH, formerly the Human Energy Systems Laboratory) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Arizona.[6][7] Other lab members at LACH include Iris Bell, MD, PhD, a psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology;[8][9] Ann Linda Baldwin, PhD, a Professor of Physiology and Psychology at the University of Arizona;[10][11] Sam Shiflett, PhD;[12] and Robert Stek, PhD.[13]
In his early career, Schwartz published extensively on biofeedback research and health psychology. Schwartz's major research focus for the past two decades has been in the fields of parapsychology and consciousness-based healthcare. His VERITAS research project, which concluded in 2008, was created primarily to test the hypothesis that the consciousness (or identity) of a person survives physical death.[14] To this end, Schwartz has performed experiments at the University of Arizona that tested well-known mediums such as John Edward of TV's Crossing Over and Allison DuBois, the inspiration for the TV drama Medium. Based on research that Schwartz has characterized as formal scientific experiments under controlled conditions as well as informal readings on himself, Schwartz concluded that DuBois could indeed contact dead people, saying, "There is no question this is not a fraud, some people really can do this, and Allison is one of them." Schwartz says his experiments with DuBois included a reading for celebrity physician and author Dr. Deepak Chopra following the death of his father that Chopra characterized as 77% accurate.[15]
Schwartz's current research projects at LACH involve the investigation into eight specific consciousness research areas:[16]
  1. The Evolution of Consciousness and Understanding (Universal Hypotheses and Post-Materialism)
  2. The Role of Consciousness in Health and Healing
  3. The Survival of Consciousness After Death
  4. Quantum Holographic Consciousness
  5. Group and Global Consciousness
  6. Animal Consciousness
  7. Other Worldly / Higher Spiritual Consciousness
  8. The Universal Intelligence Hypothesis

Schwartz's methods have prompted criticism by skeptics such as University of Oregon professor Ray Hyman, who says they deviate from the accepted norms of scientific methodology, and criticizes Schwartz for research errors such as inappropriate statistical tests and using subjects predisposed to believe in psychic abilities.[17] Skeptic Robert Todd Carroll maintains that Schwartz's evaluation of mediums is subjective and a product of wishful thinking.[15][18] When skeptic James Randi asked the University of Arizona to submit Schwartz's research data to an independent panel for evaluation as part of his $1 Million Challenge, Schwartz declined because he believed the panel, which was picked by Randi, would be biased.[19] Schwartz has also been accused by psychic Laurie Campbell and Allison DuBois of exploiting their publicity value.[20]
Schwartz is the co-author of The Living Energy Universe, and is the author of The Afterlife Experiments: Breakthrough Scientific Evidence of Life After Death and The Truth About Medium as well as authoring over 450 scientific papers and editing academic books.
