Inside every human being there is a network of nerves and sensory organs that interprets the outside physical world. At the same time, within us resides a subtle system of channels (nadis) and centers of energy (chakras) which look after our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual being. Each of the seven chakras has several spiritual qualities. These qualities are intact within us, and even though they might not always be manifest, they can never be destroyed. When the Kundalini is awakened, these qualities start manifesting spontaneously and express themselves in our life. Thus, through regular meditation, we become automatically very dynamic, creative, confident and at the same time very humble, loving and compassionate. It is a process which starts to develop by itself when the Kundalini rises and starts to nourish our chakras. Mooladhara Chakra The first chakra is situated below the sacrum bone in which resides the Kundalini, and its main aspect is the innocence. Innocence is the quality by which we experience pure, childlike joy, without the limitations of prejudice or conditionings. Innocence gives us dignity, balance, and a tremendous sense of direction and purpose in life. It is nothing but simplicity, purity and joy. It is the inner wisdom that is ever present in the little children, and gets sometimes clouded by our modern lifestyles. But it is a quality which exists eternally within us and cannot be destroyed, waiting to be manifest as pure joy when the Kundalini rises. Swadishthan Chakra The second chakra is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. It is the one which connects us to the inner source of inspiration, and enables us to experience the beauty around us. The pure knowledge given by this chakra is not mental, but it is direct perception of the Reality, that can be felt in our palms and indicates our subtle blockages. Also this is the center of pure, steady attention and power of concentration. On the physical level it looks after our liver, kidneys, and the lower abdomen. When we think too much, this center gets drained of energy and diseases like diabetes or blood cancer can occur when this chakra goes completely out of balance.Nabhi Chakra The third chakra is the one that gives us the sense of generosity, complete satisfaction and contentment. On the left side, the main quality of this center is peace - clearing this chakra can relieve stress and tensions. On the right side, it looks after our liver which is the organ of our attention and power of concentration. When enlightened by the Kundalini, the Nabhi chakra gives us our spiritual ascent, righteousness and inner sense of morality, and complete balance at all levels in our life. The Void Surrounding the second and the third chakra is the Void which stands for the principle of mastery (guru principle) within us. In many spiritual traditions, this area is the "ocean of illusions" that needs to be crossed with the help of a spiritual guide. When the Kundalini is awakened and passes through the Void, this principle of mastery is established within us. Thus, as Shri Mataji says, in Sahaja Yoga you become your own guru, your own spiritual guide since you can feel on your fingertips all your subtle problems and have the power to cure them using your own Kundalini. Moreover, establishing this center helps us get rid of all our habits, laziness, gross attachments, and everything that enslaves us in a way or another: we become our own master. Following false "gurus" who are more interested in power tricks or your purse can damage very much the Void area. But after Self Realization, everything can be cured through the purifying power of the Kundalini in meditation. The Heart Chakra or Anahat Chakra The fourth chakra, the chakra of the heart, is the place where resides our Spirit, our true Self, which is eternally pure and unaffected by anything, like a shining diamond hidden within us which witnesses all our actions. After Self Realization, our attention becomes for the first time connected to our Spirit and we gradually become aware of it. Our misidentifications with our ego or conditionings drop and we start becoming identified with our Spirit, which is our true nature. On the physical level, this chakra looks after our heart and lungs - if affected it can cause asthma or various heart conditions. It is from our heart that the compassion and love manifests, and also the heart chakra is the one that gives us the sense of responsibility and pure behaviour towards others. The heart chakra manifests in the center (at the level of the sternum bone) as complete security and confidence. All our worries, doubts and fears are destroyed when the heart chakra is fully enlightened by the Kundalini. Vishuddhi Chakra The fifth chakra is the chakra of diplomacy, of pure relationships with others, and of playful detachment. It removes all our guilts and remorses when it is opened by the Kundalini, and gives us a kind and compassionate voice. The tendencies to dominate others or to feel dominated by others, the feelings of superiority or inferiority and all jealousies are removed when this chakra is nourished by the Kundalini. Also, the Vishuddhi is the chakra which gives us the connection with the whole, enabling us to feel our oneness and the fact that we are all part and parcel of the whole. The Agnya Chakra The sixth chakra is the chakra of forgiveness and compassion. Forgiveness is the power to let go of anger, hatred and resentment and to discover, in humility, the nobility and generosity of the Spirit. It is the one that dissolves all our ego, conditionings, habits, false ideas of racialism, and all our misidentifications. It is the narrow gate which opens the way for our consciousness to ascend to its final destination, which is the seventh center. Roving eyes, watching impure things, or self-centeredness damage this chakra. Watching the sky, earth or nature can help cleanse it.The Sahasrara Chakra The seventh center integrates all the chakras with their respective qualities. It is the last milestone of the evolution of human awareness. Nowadays, we are at a level which corresponds to this chakra, and our consciousness is able to easily enter into this new realm of perception, which is beyond our limited mind and concepts, and which becomes absolute at the level of the Sahasrara. This chakra gives us the direct, absolute perception of Reality on our central nervous system. This is precisely what is achieved by Self Realization, through the spontaneous awakening of the Kundalini given by Sahaja Yoga. A word about the three channels of energy. The left channel (blue) corresponds to our past, emotions, desires, affectivity. Its termination is the superego, which is the storehouse of all our memories, habits and conditionings. The right channel (yellow) corresponds to our actions and planning, to our physical and mental activity. Its termination is the ego, which gives us the idea of I-ness, the sense that we are separate from the world. The central channel is the channel of ascent, it is the power which sustains our evolution and guides us, consciously or unconsciously, towards the higher awareness of the Sahasrara (seventh chakra). The workings of Self Realization and subtle aspects of the chakras and channels are too extensive to be explained here. They are part of a knowledge which is not only to be studied at the mental level, but to be experienced directly. This new level of consciousness can be achieved after Self Realization, through the regular practice of Sahaja Yoga meditation techniques that are taught, always free of charge, in over 75 countries around the world. Kundalini Awakening....Kundalini Rising....
| The following comes from a "technical" description of Kundalini Rising in which the psycho-spiritual energy rises powerfully from the base, and can lead to higher stages of consciousness. #5: Leading the Kundalini upward: After Kundalini Awakening (section #4), its full force is then guided through the Sushumna channel, much like the Prana that came before (though now in its full force), systematically piercing, and moving through one after another of the chakras along the way. Kundalini Awakening is followed by Kundalini Rising. After Kundalini Rising, the Kundalini is guided to the Crown.
The seven major chakras: As was described in section #1, the energy of Prana flows in the nadis, and the major vortices of the energy intersections are the chakras. Energy is concentrated and stored at these chakra intersections. They are the subtlety which is underneath, or provides the support for the nerve plexuses along the spine. Briefly, the seven major chakras are:
- Muladhara: coccyx, base of the spine, at the perineum
- Svadhistana: sacral plexus, genital area
- Manipura: solar plexus, navel center
- Anahata: cardiac plexus, heart center
- Visshuddha: thoracic plexus, throat center
- Ajna: pituitary center, eyebrow center
- Sahasrara: crown of the head
As the Kundalini moves upwards during the phase of Kundalini Rising, it encounters and fills each of the lower chakras, one after the other. The Ida and Pingala nadis, coursing through the chakras, are felt more deeply, and seen as well. During Kundalini Rising, each of the chakras is experienced in its subtler and subtler ways, including the subtler aspects of the five elements and the ten indriyas, which are associated with the first five chakras:
Three groups within six chakras: The chakras function within three general groups of process, going along with a predominance of the three primal elements or gunas:
- Tamas: The first two chakras relate to the primal activities that operate in relation to the physical world, including the drives for self-preservation and procreation, effectively obscuring higher experience.
- Rajas: The third and fourth chakras, the navel and the heart centers, involve a subtler relationship with the world, working with one's individuality rather than just engaging the physical world.
- Sattva: The fifth and sixth chakras, the throat and the eyebrow centers, begin movement away from the outer towards the inner world of purity, intuition, creativity, and wisdom, from which the outer arises.
Open and Closed chakras: If a chakra is open, then Kundalini Rising continues to upwards to the next chakra. If they are all open, then it rises all the way to the Sahasrara. However, this is commonly thought of in an opposite way. If a chakra is closed, then the Kundalini stops its upward journey, and one experiences that chakra more fully in an external way (what is typically called open). This can seem to be evidence of an open chakra, but the fact that the Kundalini does not keep going upwards means that the chakra is actually closed.
Three knots or granthis are broken: Along the Sushumna channel there are three knots (granthis) of energy that will be broken or untied along the upward journey of Kundalini Rising, allowing the flow to go into and through the various chakras above that point:
- Brahma granthi: Blocking the flow from the first chakra, the root chakra, muladhara, upward to the others; related to bondage to desires.
- Vishnu granthi: Blocking the flow from the third chakra at the navel, manipura, upward to the fourth chakra, anahata, the heart; related to bondage of actions.
- Rudra granthi: Blocking the flow beyond the sixth chakra between the eyebrows, ajna chakra, upwards towards sahasrara; related to bondage of thoughts (compared to pure knowing).
Urdhva retas or upward traveling: The energy which is normally dissipated in the lower chakras can be rechanneled to the upper chakras through Kundalini Rising, not being released outward from those chakras, and brought further up the Sushumna nadi towards the upper chakras. Such practices as siddhasana (the accomplished pose), mahamudra (an asana), kapalabhati (a breathing practice), and mahabandha (locks) are used along with concentration of the mind. This allows the lower energy (retas) to move upward and become transformed into a higher energy (ojas), sometimes called effulgent, vital, creative, or spiritual energy that is used for higher realization.
To rise part way is most common: It is most common for the awakened Kundalini to rise only to one of the lower chakras, rather than to awaken and arise through all of the chakras, all the way to the crown. Having the Kundalini awaken and even partial Kundalini Rising is an encouraging and inspiring experience. It is also an experience to observe with humility, as the ego can claim ownership of the experience and delay further advancement.
Confusing Prana and Kundalini: It was already described that when Ida and Pingala are balanced, and Prana begins to flow in Sushumna channel, there comes feelings of peace and a calmness of mind. While this is definitely a desired step along the way, it is sometimes confused with Kundalini Awakening. Sometimes there are jerks and jolts in the nervous system that come along with this; these too are not Kundalini Awakening or Kundalini Rising. It is useful to be aware of the difference between the flows of Prana and full Kundalini Awakening and Kundalini Rising. Then, when those very useful steps along the way come, they are seen as signposts, and as inspiration for the deeper experience.
Kundalini itself becomes a guide: As the sadhana (practices) progress, Kundalini itself becomes a guide. This does not mean that one does not follow external guidance, nor does it mean not questioning the validity of inner insights that might be mental habits masquerading as inner wisdom. Rather, it means that there is a magnetic pull, a directing energy that comes from the Kundalini Shakti itself, which is drawing one towards home through Kundalini Rising.
Shakti becomes like a lion: While the energy of Kundalini Shakti is a guide, it is also like a lion that is running through the body and the mind, searching out and eating away the imperfections that remain. If one is not prepared for this, it can be very shocking and difficult to integrate into daily life. This is not said to cause fear, but respect for the journey. Once again, it means that it is necessary to prepare for the onslaught of such intense purifying experience. If one is not prepared, then the experiences from Kundalini Rising that should bring joy brings physical or mental suffering instead. Paradoxically, notice that if one does not purify, no progress is made, while at the same time, the progress itself brings purification.
Purify to be ready to purify: To prepare for this intense purifying experience requires preparing, by doing the grosser aspects of purifying through work with the body, breath, and mind. This is done through integrating practices such as meditation, contemplation, prayer, and mantra. The practices of Yoga Nidra and bhuta shuddhi (chakra meditation) are very useful. Notice the way an athlete will practice intensely to gain strength and stamina. Then there is a period of rest before the day of the athletic event. At the time of the event there is an intense outpouring of effort. The same is done with Kundalini Awakening and Kundalini Rising. First, you purify and practice. As you do this, you live your daily life. Then, after being fully prepared, there comes the times of advancement in the experiences.
Awakening versus leading Kundalini: The process of Kundalini Awakening is not only one of awakening the energy, but also of leading it upwards, through each of the chakras. The many practices with body, breath, and mind, each have their effect on these various centers, and pave the way for the Kundalini Rising to further upward over time and with practice.

How "Real", and "Objective" are the Chakras?
The following article comes from the kheper website which indicates that many "descriptions" of the chakras are not necessarily in accord. The "only" way to know how "real", and "objective" they are may be is through the development of the new emerging paradigm of Multi-Dimensional Science. RS

Within every living body, although on the subtle rather than the gross or physical level, there are said to be a series of energy fields or centres of consciousness, which in traditionalTantric teachings are called chakras [1]("wheels" , [2]) or padmas ("lotuses"). They are said to be located either along, or just in front of, the backbone, even though they may express themselves externally at points along the front of the body (navel, heart, throat, etc). Associated with the chakras is a latent subtle energy, called Kundalini in Shaktism, andtumo in Tibetan Buddhist Tantra.
Speculations and teachings concerning the chakras have occured independently in the religious, spiritual, yogic, and occult traditions of India, China, and the West. Although having certain basic points in common, these also differ in many details. So we have a number of different chakra-doctrines that have developed in different esoteric traditions to greater or lesser completeness.
Notes
click on the reference number to return to the point in the essay.
[1] a note regarding pronounciation. It seems that just about everyone nowadays says "shar-kra". The origin of this particular pronounciation is unclear, but the fact is that the Sanskrit word cakra is - depending on the accent - either pronounced "cha-kra" with the "a"'s like the "u" in "but", or "cho-kro" with the "o"'s as in "box". So: "chakra", not "sharkra"
[2] The modern use of the term chakra - "wheel" - claims this is how they appearaer to yogic and clairvoyant perception, but there is no evidence that the tantrics considered or even experienced the chakras in this manner.
[3] Sometimes two lines of chakras are described - one for the front of the body and the other for the back. See Barbara Brennan's work in this respect.

Tattvas and Gunas
The Origin of the Universe
Ref Chakras.net
In the beginning was SHŪNYĀKĀSHA – “emptiness” or “the void”.
Shūnyākāsha is more than “nothingness”, it is an immense potency of dormant energy in which “everything” exists in a latent state of potentiality. Everything conceivable can be brought into existence, just like text written, or pictures drawn, on an empty sheet of paper.
As creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as the sound “OM”.
Just like light, sound is vibration, energy. Light and sound are the forms that the Divine Self takes in the Universe. OM is the reflection of the absolute reality. OM is “Ādi Ānadi” - without beginning or end.
In the Vedas it is said:
NĀDA RŪPA PARA BRAHMA – The form of the Supreme is sound.
The vibration of OM symbolises the manifestation of God in form. The silence between two OM-sounds reveals the formless, divine principle.
OM embraces “all that exists” – past, present and future, all spheres of the Cosmos, the world and its underlying reality, mind and matter, cause and effect, the path and the goal. The Mantra OM is the “name of God”, the vibration of the Supreme, the all-encompassing Mantra. The essence of all wisdom has its roots in this sound. In the triad A-U-M the divine energy (Shakti) is united in its three elementary aspects as:
BRAHMĀ SHAKTI – the creative power that manifests the Universe
VISHNU SHAKTI – the preserving power that sustains the Cosmos
SHIVA SHAKTI – the liberating power that brings about transformation and renewal .
At the beginning of creation as the sound of OM divided the unity of Shūnyākāsha, two powers emerged from it:
PURUSHA – original consciousness
PRAKRITI – primordial nature
Prakriti is the eternal stream of divine energy and Purusha is the divine Self, the unchanging, omnipresent and omniscient witness of all events and mutations of Prakriti. To ensure that nature (Prakriti) would always maintain a connection to the divine (Purusha) the force of attraction developed as an aspect of Prakriti.
The desire for union and the striving for expansion are “natural”; they are intrinsic impulses of nature. Why does the seed that was planted in the lap of the earth sprout? Because the impetus for growth and duplication lies in its nature - uniting, unfolding, growing, multiplying, protecting, preserving and nourishing; put concisely, “loving” is the fundamental characteristic of Prakriti. Love contains the impulse for development and expansion, and this love is part of the Divine Being.
In a progressive sequence the three GUNAS (essential qualities) and the five TATTVAS (elementary principles) emanated from Prakriti. These form the basis of all manifestations, of all subtle and gross forms.
The five Tattvas are:
PRITHVĪ – EarthĀPAS – Water
TEJAS – Fire
VĀYU – Air
ĀKĀSHA – Space
However, without some impetus the Tattvas cannot unite. For that they require the participation of the Gunas, which are characterised by the following qualities.
Gunas:
RAJAS – activity, movement, restlessness, passionTAMAS – rigidity, laziness, darkness, ignorance
SATTVA – harmony, light, purity, knowledge
Tattvas and Gunas are the primordial forces that have an effect on both the physical and astral planes. They influence all forms of life physically, psychically and spiritually from the beginning of their earthly existence to their end. Through the multi-layered combinations of these basic powers the human body, with its highly complex organ, nerve and brain functions, comes into existence and the psyche and mind are formed.
The diverse interactions between the five gross Tattvas, which form the physical body, are known as Prakritis (natural forces). There are twenty-five Prakritis that influence and regulate the systems of the body.
The Tattvas that are flowing aimlessly around in space are independent forces without visible effect. It is not until several of these primordial, undirected forces are concentrated at one point that something qualitatively new is produced. However, first an assembly point must be formed so the energy can be focused and assimilated. The most highly developed and most powerful centre on earth is the human. So just as bees collect around the queen bee, all forces and Tattvas follow when the Ātma enters the embryo. In order for a human form to be constructed the orderly combination of an immense number of effects is necessary. In the same way, but at a lower intensity, animal and plant life come into being.
The Cosmic forces are collected within the human body at certain central points, the CHAKRAS. These function like powerful power stations. They draw in cosmic energy, transform, store and distribute it, and then radiate it out into the Cosmos again.
The Tattvas that combined to form the body as a dwelling for the soul again detach from one another at death and return to the Cosmos. The soul then continues to wander, waiting to produce a new form again under suitable conditions. This cycle is known as CHORASI KĀ CHAKRA , “The Wheel of Rebirth and Death”.
According to Indian philosophy there are 8.4 million types of living beings that are divided into three categories: NABHA CHARA, THALA CHARA and JALA CHARA – living beings that exist in the air, those that live on or under the earth and those that live in the water. They are further divided into four different classifications according to their method of birth in these three earthly spheres:
JARĀYUJA – in the womb (humans and mammals)
ANDAJA – in an egg that is hatched (birds, reptiles, fish, etc.)
SVEDAJA – through division (lower forms of life, bacteria, etc.)
UDBHIJJA – through seed (vegetation)
Each of these groups has certain aptitudes and abilities called KALĀ in Sanskrit. Plants possess one Kalā, lower life forms two, egg-laying animals three, and mammals and humans four. While plants and animals remain at the level of their genesis, humans can develop up to sixteen Kalā through exercises, concentration and following the principles of Yoga. They can acquire twelve supernatural powers in addition to their four natural aptitudes.
Therefore, the attainment of a human birth is the greatest stroke of luck for the soul. To enable this, with God’s grace, innumerable Cosmic powers act in combination; and this joining is comparable to a great fire. Qualitatively the souls of all beings are the same: they are differentiated only in the degree of their development. A small candle flame is “fire”, but when several flames are combined a brighter light, a stronger power, results. A human lives more intensively and more consciously than an animal, and is distinguished from all other life forms through the gift of the intellect (BUDDHI).
Without faltering the wheel of rebirth keeps turning, and the soul wanders through the circle of existence driven by God’s plan and KARMAS (actions) . Human life offers the only possibility of ending this cycle. The cyclic laws of nature also bind humans, but with the help of the intellect they are capable of exploring the world, themselves and also the supernatural powers. Only humans are capable of understanding “What is God”. Only humans can realise God. That is why it is possible for them to emerge from the cycle of rebirth and, as a consequence, also help others to do so.
The practice of Yoga supports and accelerates the development of humans as it imparts to them knowledge of the true dimension of earthly life, its purpose and potential.
The evolution of consciousness attains fulfilment in the divine state of SAMĀDHI where Knower, Knowledge and the Object of Knowledge become one. Since the beginning of its existence the individual self has sought to gain knowledge about “the Self”. While in Samādhi the self recognises that it and the one sought for are one and the same – therefore also “the Knower” and “the object of knowledge” are the same – and so begins the blissful experience of unity, displacing the wrongly cherished illusion of duality.
This supreme knowledge is transmitted to us through two spiritual Tattvas, ANUPADA TATTVA and ĀDI TATTVA . Anupada Tattva (also called Guru Tattva) is the universal, divine principle that leads the creation from “darkness into light” – from unconscious existence to conscious existence. Ādi Tattva is the divine Self, ĀTMĀ . Therefore it is also called ĀTMA TATTVA or ĀTMA GYĀNA .
Self-Realised Yoga Masters are known as BRAHMANISHTA SHROTRIA, the knowers of Brahman, and TATTVA DARSHI, the knowers of the Tattvas. Their knowledge and experiences are unlimited; they transcend time, space and intellect. One who possesses self-knowledge and knowledge of the Tattvas has acquired the highest knowledge realisable by a human – with this one becomes the “knower of God” (BRAHMA GYĀNI) and the Self merges into the divine consciousness and becomes one with God.
Srī Mahāprabhujī wrote in one Bhajan:
Infinite is the experience of the Tattva Darshi Gurudev.
The blessed ones who have recognised this cross the ocean of ignorance.
I had searched everywhere – including heaven and hell –
And in all three worlds I found no-one comparable to the Sataguru.
The struggle of the Yogi to become free of passion, anger, attachment, greed and ego
Is more difficult than the battle waged on the battlefield.

Kundalini Awakened
"A little more knowledge about himself may change the whole life and the whole sphere of activity of man"
Gopi Krishna
This site has been created to provide information to anyone who is experiencing a Kundalini Awakening or is interested in the subject. The aim is to provide a platform for people to express their experiences and share their knowledge of this amazing experience. As we are now in the age of awakening more and more people are going through this process and from my own experience it can be a lonely, strange and sometimes frightening path to walk. Through sharing my experiences and knowledge I hope to be able to help people who are just starting out on this road to better understand what is occurring and how to deal with it, embrace it and to understand it for what it truly is, an evolution of consciousness...
Brief History Of Kundalini
Kundalini is a powerful energy that is within each one of us and some believe is the foundation of life itself, the Divine Mother Goddess, the life force of the universe that is present in all things. The ancient Yogis of India created Yoga to awaken Her power and devoted there entire lives to the cultivation and understanding of Kundalini. It has also been a part of many other ancient cultures and religions throughout history. Until recently only the privileged and spiritually adept had the knowledge of how to awaken the Kundalini or knew of the secrets of its power. But as we progress in this age of awakening, awareness and knowledge of this evolutionary energy is beginning to emerge and people all over the world are experiencing Kundalini Awakening. It is known by a variety of names in many different cultures but the Sages of India called it The Kundalini. In Sanskrit this literally means 'the curl of the hair' or 'coiled', it is usually envisaged as a sleeping serpent coiled and ready to be awakened and is sometimes referred to as 'Serpent Power'. It is also related to the Mother Goddess, Mother Nature or the Sacred Femine.
The Process Of Awakening
Once Kundalini is awakened an evolution of the mind, body and spirit occurs. Leading to a higher state of consciousness and spiritual awareness. With the emergence in the West of practices such as Reiki, Meditation and Yoga over the last century many more people have awakened this dormant power that is kept hidden within. When Kundalini rises it is essentially connecting the male and female energies and connecting the individual with the Divine consciousness although there are conflicting views on the process of awakening and it's purpose so it is important to understand that there are still many unanswered questions. It is a very individual and subjective experience dependant on one's karma and life experience. Kundalini is located at the base of the spine between the Root and Sacral Chakras and lays dormant in most people, it is usually developed and awakened through spiritual practice but can awaken spontaneously in some people. Some say it is the life force energy that resides in all things, also know as prana or chi, others that it is the all powerful evolutionary energy that is hidden from us and must be cultivated to be awakened. From my personal experience, I believe it to be the latter, as prana or chi is much more subtle and gentle, and kundalini much more fierce, a relentless fountain of energy which is much more powerful than prana or chi. Once you experience the awakening of kundalini you will know the difference. There is one school of thought from a particular Yogi that it is Kundalini that keeps us alive, it is our life force. It flows in all of us constantly at a very low level, but when it is cultivated it flows much more stongly and cleanes us from within.
The most common practices used to awaken Kundalini are Meditation, Reiki, Qi Gong and Yoga but there are many forms of energy practice which can bring about a Kundalini awakening. As I said previously it can even occur spontaneously in some people, and this is where there are more potential problems, where the person is not ready or knowledgeable enough to understand what is happening.
Once the process begins it is difficult to stop, it can be controlled and ignored but may lead to problems. Without the adequate knowledge and preparation this can be an uncomfortable and sometimes quite traumatic experience. There should be adequate preparation prior to the awakening of Kundalini and if this not undertaken then problems can arise. The are rumours of people going insane after awakening Kundalini, I do not believe these people are really insane, just that Western psychiatry does not understand the process or treat it correctly by allowing the process to unfold naturally, while giving support to the individual rather than medication in an attempt to suppress it. There is much written claiming Kundalini to be a dark force, and also that practices such as Reiki, Crystal therapy and even Meditation are practices which should be left alone and are classed as Occult. I suggest that it is not the practices themselves which are problematic but the minds or intentions of the individuals practicing them. If your intention is not positive then these forces will not be positive, but I believe that if we hold in our hearts the feelings of love and compassion then these powers can bring only positive things. There is also some speculation as to the meaning of the word occult. It does not necessarily mean that if something is occult it is bad or dark, just that it is outside the teachings of organised religions.
I believe all religions know the secrets of awakening kundalini and its power, but they wish to keep the power to themselves and are attempting to stop our Spiritual evolution by repressing the real truths of our existence.
These are just my opinions and it is up to you to make up your own mind about this subject and it greatly depends on your own spiritual and religious beliefs.
Symptoms
Kundalini awakening is often referred to as Kundalini syndrome. It can be a confusing experience and it can be difficult to find support and accurate information. Many people in Western medicine and science are not aware of the existence of Kundalini and those who are mostly regard it as an illness or psychiatric problem and advise of the dangers of awakening Kundalini. There are reports of people suffering extreme physical and psychological symptoms during an awakening so it is very important to be aware of the reported positive and negative aspects, and the potential risks involved.
Positive aspects include-
- Raised Spiritual awareness
- Ability to achieve deep meditative states
- Healing of both physical and emotional issues
- A sense of connectedness to God and to nature
- The ability to heal others
- Improved health and well-being
Negative aspects include-
- Cranial pressure
- Sudden cramps and spasms
- Uncontrollable waves of energy flowing up the spine
- Confusion and disorientation
- Feelings of isolation and depression
- Psychological problems

These symptoms or experiences are also sometimes classed as a 'Spiritual Emergency' and I have added a link to the Spiritual Emergence Network on the links page. You can also search in the books section of this site for 'Spiritual Emergency' by Stanislav Grof if you are experiencing any of the symptoms above.

It is important to understand that although these negative aspects are sometimes overwhelming and can be uncomfortable at times, they are a necessary part of the process, a process of clearing the emotional and physical blockages of the mind and body. The symptoms can be more extreme if a person is not adequately prepared and it is also dependent on how the person has lived there life and the expeiences they have had. If there is deep trauma which is buried deep in the subconscious then this can lead to quite intense and traumatic experiences of re-living the trauma as a way of releasing and clearing it from the system. Every one's experience is different but with the right preparation and prior knowledge of what is actually occurring then these symptoms should not be too distressing and if they are they will generally subside after a while leaving a deeper sense of well being. Overall the process should be an amazing, joyful and healing experience, a process of human evolution, ultimately an evolution of consciousness.
Preparation
Before attempting to awaken Kundalini, a clearing of the mind and body through the practice of Meditation and Yoga should first be sought as this paves the way for a far more positive experience. A healthy diet should be followed, ideally vegetarian, eliminating all processed foods and junk food. It is also of vital importance to cultivate the correct mentality, you should strive to have an unselfish and loving mentality, of compassion and forgiveness, for oneself and for humanity as a whole. You must also be prepared for what is to come. As the Kundalini works its way up through the chakras a process of clearing past Karma and stored emotions occurs. This is an important part of the process as it is releasing you from past trauma and heals the part of the self where that experience is stored. This can take a long time to complete and can be a confusing part of the process. You will need to re-live many of the traumas in your life and maybe even past lives before the process comes to an end. When these experiences arise it is important to forgive yourself and anyone else involved. You can also ask God for forgiveness if you have a belief in God, which definitely helps as you go through this process.
An individual experiencing an awakening may become extremely sensitive to everything so it is also important to attempt to avoid anger and conflict. Avoid films, music, TV and even books with any violent or negative content as this can have a deep impact on the emotions and psyche. Try to spend as much time in nature as possible, as this helps to harmonise the body's energy vibrations with those of nature. Also be aware of what you put into your body, alcohol intake should be kept to a minimum and the use of recreational drugs should be avoided completely as these can all impact on the experience of awakening Kundalini.
Awakened
Once the process has run it's course, we are left with a deeper understanding of ourselves and of the universe as a whole. Some call it Enlightenment, the full knowledge of the true nature of existence and the mysteries of consciousness. Enlightenment brings a deep connection to God, the source of creation and with that brings the infinite wisdom available through that connection. The realisation occurs that God is within you and not outside of you, and the battle with dark and light is fought internally, not externaly. By the very end of the process you will have attained a deep sense of inner peace which will manifest itself in your outer reality and literally change the way you live your life.
Knowledge is the key to a successful and harmonious experience, any individual experiencing Kundalini awakening or who has an interest should immerse themselves in the subject. They should also gain as much knowledge as possible as to fully understand what is occuring and how to best cope with the intense experiences which come with a Kundalini awakening. Transpersonal Chakras
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Transpersonal chakras are a line of several chakras (various authors describe either three, five, or six) that many yogis and meditation practitioners say are located sequentially above the crown chakra (itself located on the top of the head) to a distance above the head of as far as about 18 inches (about 0.5 meters).[1]

[edit] Transpersonal chakras in Asian philosophy
Transpersonal chakras are seen in Hinduism, in Vajrayana Buddhism, in Daoism and in qigong, and in New Age thought as several chakras above the head, as noted above. The transpersonal chakras in Hinduism have Sanskrit names, in Varjayana Buddhism they have Sanskrit and Tibetan names, and in Daoism and in qigong they have Chinese names. There are five transpersonal chakras above the head beyond the usual seven that are mentioned and named in the esoteric texts of Vajrayana Buddhism.[2][edit] New Age three transpersonal chakra system
Using the New Age names, the lowest transpersonal chakra (the soul star chakra) is said to be located about 4-5 fingers above the head, the middle transpersonal chakra (the God portal chakra) is said to be located about 12 inches above the head and the highest transpersonal chakra (the grand portal chakra) (sometimes called the stellar portal chakra} is said to be located about 18 inches above the head.[3] [4][edit] The soul star chakra
The soul star chakra is a chakra that many meditation practitioners say is located above the crown chakra. The soul star chakra is said to be located about 4-5 fingers above the head. This chakra is associated with spiritual connection between individuals, as well as connection to one's Higher Self.[3] [4][edit] Function of the transpersonal chakras
The highest transpersonal chakra is called the "grand portal" because it is believed by some mystics, magicians and yogis to provide access for soul travel into other parts of this universe, into alternate universes, to higher planes of existence, to the past or future history of our own timeline or alternate timelines via time travel forward or backward in time, or to other cosmoses.[3][4][5][6][7][8][edit] See also

The first chakra is situated below the sacrum bone in which resides the Kundalini, and its main aspect is the innocence.
The second chakra is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. When we think too much, this center gets drained of energy and diseases like diabetes or blood cancer can occur when this chakra goes completely out of balance.
The third chakra is the one that gives us the sense of generosity, complete satisfaction and contentment.
Surrounding the second and the third chakra is the Void which stands for the principle of mastery (guru principle) within us.
The fourth chakra, the chakra of the heart, is the place where resides our Spirit, our true Self, which is eternally pure and unaffected by anything, like a shining diamond hidden within us which witnesses all our actions.
The fifth chakra is the chakra of diplomacy, of pure relationships with others, and of playful detachment.
The sixth chakra is the chakra of forgiveness and compassion. Watching the sky, earth or nature can help cleanse it.
The seventh center integrates all the chakras with their respective qualities.
